Miss
Duncanville 2008, Cassidy Arend is an 18
year old freshman attending Tarrant County
College where she is beginning her dream of
obtaining her Doctorate in Geology,
specializing in Earthquake Science and
Volcanology with plans to become a National
Spokesperson for Environmental Protection.
She was a member of the honor roll in
advanced placement classes in high school
and placed third in the school-wide Science
Fair. Cassidy was President of the Keller
High School Environment Club, founder of the
Earth Club, and volunteer for Keep Keller
Beautiful. She also volunteers with Special

the
American Cancer Society, DIFFA (AIDS benefit), and
Make-A-Wish Foundation. Cassidy created a recycling program
for Keller High School which was then implemented
district-wide. She also got help from Home Depot and
several other garden centers to donate two truckloads of
garden supplies which were planted at The Samaritan House
for HIV/AIDS residents.
Cassidy
is not only a very talented vocalist but also has produced a
Miss America local pageant. Her main outreach is in schools
and community youth programs where she teaches students to
protect our Earth through The Five R's: Respect, Rethink,
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Cassidy also has taken on educating
Junior High, High School, and adults of all ages about the
continuing battle with HIV and AIDS. Many people feel this
disease is mainly in Africa or other countries. However, it
is still very prevalent in the United States, and without
continued education and research, we could be right back
where we were. Whether promoting pollution of our earth or
educating young and old alike about the risks of HIV/AIDS,
this young lady has a spirit and passion far beyond her 18
years.
